A Legacy That Began in 1946
Neil’s Transport Pty Ltd was established in 1946 by Erle Neil, who began transporting timber for local merchants in the Southern Riverina region of NSW and Victoria, QLD and beyond. His first vehicle—a military Army Blitz prime mover—towed a 9-metre single-axle trailer, marking the start of a journey built on hard work and resilience.
As the economy and government regulations evolved, so too did Neil’s Transport. By the early 1960s, the company had expanded into livestock cartage and general freight, such as bagged cement and fuel drums. A fleet of six S-Model Bedford prime movers served the growing demands of the region.
During this time, Jan Neil, Erle’s son, joined the business and later became General Manager. Under Jan’s leadership, the business expanded significantly. By 1978, it had been acquired by Wm. Charlick Ltd, operating a fleet of 40 company-owned vehicles and 40 dedicated subcontractors. Neil’s Transport was serving major clients such as Murray Goulburn Co-Op, Ricegrowers, Woolworths, AWB, and the NSW Grain Board, offering bulk commodities handling and palletised storage.
In 1989, the company was re-established under the Neil family name, with Andrew Neil—representing the third generation—leading the expansion into storage and grain trading. Turnovers reached $30 million.
Following the passing of Erle in 1990 and Andrew in 1995, the family chose to focus solely on the transport arm of the business, preserving its original strength and identity.
